Deer Isle

As soon as we began sharing news of our engagement, friends and family asked us where we would be married.  Realizing we had better figure that out, we asked each other if either of us had any ideas about where we would like our ceremony to be held.  We had both separately imagined a ceremony on the lawn of Emily's grandparents' house in Deer Isle, Maine.  When we shared this idea with each other, we smiled and knew it would be the right place.
Deer Isle speaks to us for many reasons. Emily's family has deep roots on the island, and it has remained a part of their lives for generations.  Over the last couple of years, we as a couple have shared wonderful times there. The place symbolizes peace and joy in our lives, and to unite our families there would be very meaningful.  Additionally, the island is a fun and welcoming place to visit - with beautiful scenery, outdoor activities, art galleries, and great food.
Holding the ceremony in a small and remote setting limits the number of guests, but we both want to experience an intimate ceremony in a place that is special to us. Although we will be hosting a larger reception at a later date to ask a wider circle of friends and family to celebrate with us, the small ceremony this June will be witnessed by our closest friends and family - those people we will call upon for support throughout our marriage.  We realize this is a hike for many of you, and we thank you for considering traveling such a great distance.
We are so excited to share this day and place with you!
