Driving Directions:
From the south (Portland, ME or Boston, MA) take I-95
North to Maine exit 113 and just go straight through a couple of
traffic lights. This is a new connector
that will tie into Route 3 heading for Belfast (about 45 miles from the
exit). You will not enter the town of Belfast
per se, but you will come to a built-up area of car dealers, fast food places,
etc. Route 1 crosses over Route 3 and
you take an immediate left just after the overpass, onto Route 1, which is now
also Route 3. Stay on the road through
Searsport, through Stockton Springs, heading for Bucksport. You will cross the Penobscot River on a high
bridge to Verona Island. Just stay on
the road and you’ll cross a low bridge from this island to Bucksport. At the end of this second bridge, turn right,
still following Routes 1 and 3 heading toward Orland. You will pass something called H.O.M.E. on your right. A couple of miles beyond that place you will
bear right onto Route 15. Your turn is immediately before a Shell gas
station. There is a sign saying “Deer
Isle” at this turn. Stay on Route 15 and
it will take you through Blue Hill village and on toward Deer Isle. Follow Rte. 15 as far
as you can and turn right in Sedgwick, following the signs “Deer Isle” and
“Stonington.” Route 15 will take you to
the bridge over Eggemoggin Reach to Little Deer Isle where it makes a rather
sharp left turn and leads you to a causeway that connects Little Deer Isle to
Deer Isle. All points in Deer Isle are
accessible from Rte. 15.
From the north (Bangor), take I-95 South to 395 East and look for the turn that says Rte. 15 to Bucksport. Stay on Route 15 and it will take you through Blue Hill village and on toward Deer Isle. Follow Rte. 15 as far as you can and turn right in Sedgwick, following the signs “Deer Isle” and “Stonington.” Route 15 will take you to the bridge over Eggemoggin Reach to Little Deer Isle where it makes a rather sharp left turn and leads you to a causeway that connects Little Deer Isle to Deer Isle. All points in Deer Isle are accessible from Rte. 15.
